Bible Secret Number 75

Are Prophets Infallible?

If a person is inspired of God (like a prophet or an apostle), does that mean he is infallible?

Even though John the Baptist was "filled with the Holy Spirit [inspired of God], even from his birth" (Luke 1:15), he was not perfect in all his actions. Why can we know this? Simply because Paul taught that "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Indeed, even John was not sure if Jesus were the Christ on one occasion (Matthew 11:2,3). His knowledge and recognition were imperfect. The fact is, even people inspired of God are not necessarily infallible in their ways. That is a virtue reserved for Christ and the Father alone.
