Does Hell Last Forever?

What is the main reason that the vast number of Christian denominations today believe in an "ever burning hell" in which people will suffer for the rest of eternity?

The central reason for this is their adoption of the Gentile philosophical belief that the soul (or some say the spirit) of a person can never die. They believe that when God created Adam and Eve that he made them to have immortal souls of spirits and that is the part of the person that will either be in heaven with Christ or in hell with Satan and his demons for the rest of eternity.

There is one scripture (out of many) that can dispel this false notion. The apostle Paul stated emphatically that God "only has immortality dwelling in the light which no man [as a fleshly human being] can approach unto" (1 Timothy 6:16). In no way is any man created to be immortal in any way. Only God and those in the God Family (such as Christ at the present) have immortality and that is the precise teaching of the Bible.

Mankind can only gain an immortal existence at the resurrection of the just which occurs at Christís second advent. Paul said "We shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruption must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality (1 Corinthians 15:51-53).

The apostle Paul was so insistent that mankind (and even all the righteous saints who ever lived before the time of Christ) were in a state of being "perished" at the time of Christ. They were not alive somewhere either enjoying life or in some kind of suffering. Paul said: "If the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised. And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; you are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep [the righteous dead who lived before the time of Christ] are perished" (1 Corinthians 15:16-18). In the plainest of language, Paul is stating that all the righteous dead were then in a state of "perishment" and not in any idyllic form of living. He went on to say that the firstfruit of all people who were to be made alive by a resurrection was Christ himself." Christ, the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christís at his coming" (1 Corinthians 15:23). So, even the righteous dead who lived before Christ will not perish, but they will be resurrected at Christís second advent to then put on immortality (1 Corinthians 15:38-54).

It is the false doctrine of the "Immortality of the Soul" (or Spirit) that leads the way in providing false doctrines to most of the Christian churches today. They think "Uncle John" and "Aunt Mary" are now up in heaven enjoying life with Christ, while Hitler and Nero Caesar are in hell burning in pain but never able to find any relief. This is sheer nonsense. This is because the wages of sin (as I have shown before) is death, not life. Christ died for our sins. He did not have life in hell fire as would be the case if that were indeed the punishment for sins that the preachers, priests, and theologians tell us today.
